Difference Between Inverter AC and Non-Inverter AC technology


There are so many type of Air Conditioners is available in the market. Air Conditioners with difference in brands, capacity, efficiency, etc are the main things we need to consider while buying an AC. But now a day’s another criteria we need to check is “If the Air Conditioner uses Inverter technology or not”. When we think about inverter first thing comes in our mind is an electronic device called Power Inverter, that is used to changes direct current (DC) to alternating current (AC). This assumption is absolutely wrong, Inverter used in Air Conditioners have completely different application.


Inverter Air Conditioner

Inverter is a device which is used to control the speed of the compressor, so as to continuously regulate the temperature. It is the best type of AC to buy in India, which saves electricity, as well as it is more silent and comfortable with steady continuous cooling. When the inverter air conditioning is switched on, the compressor operates at a high speed in order to cool or heat the room quickly. When room temperature approaches the set temperature, the compressor slows down, maintaining a constant temperature and saving energy. Any sudden fluctuation in the room temperature will be sensed and it will instantly adjust the room temperature back to the set temperature.

This kind of Air Conditioners can automatically adjust its capacity based on the requirement of the room it is cooling. Cooling capacity of an Inverter AC is based on indoor temperature, outdoor temperature and piping length. Inverter air conditioning unit is energy efficient. Energy efficiency rating of Inverter AC’s cannot be determined by EER because Inverter AC can run on variable input wattage and output wattage. So Indian Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (ISEER) has been introduced by BEE.

Star rating standard for Inverter Air Conditioner was introduced in the year 2016 by Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE). Currently most models are in BEE 3, 4 and 5 Star rating ranges on BEE. Inverter AC units are quieter, with lower operating cost and with less broke downs.

Dual Inverter AC is the one of the latest technology invented by AC manufactures. It uses dual rotary compressor which has twin Rotors, which results in faster cooling, high energy savings, low operational noise and greater stability. For example, a 1.50 Ton, Dual Inverter AC will save 834 units with respect to a 5 star Split AC in one year.

Non-Inverter Air Conditioner

Non-Inverter Air Conditioners are the best common Air Conditioners available in India.  The non-inverter air conditioner system is a model that operates by simply being switched on or off in controlling its temperature. Rather than allowing the compressor to run at a full power all the time it is on, the compressor motor here controls the compressor as needed. A constant amount of energy is delivered to the compressor which causes it to run at a fixed speed.

Cooling capacity of a Non-Inverter Air Conditioner will depends on the size of the room. When size of the room increases, you should increase the cooling capacity of the AC. Cooling power is measured in British Thermal Units per hour (BTU’s per hour), the basic measure of thermal energy. As the Btu rating increases, weight, size and cost of the air conditioner will also increases.

Efficiency of a room air conditioner is measured by the energy efficiency ratio (EER) according to BEE. The EER is the ratio of the cooling effect measured in BTU per hour divided by the electrical energy input measured in Watts. The higher the EER rating, more efficient will be the air conditioner and also the power used will be less. ENERGY STAR ratings for Air Conditioners are provided on the basis of ERR.
