India Plans To Ban Sale Of Petrol & Diesel Vehicles By 2030 and looking for all-electric car fleet by 2030. Objective of this is to lower the fuel import bill and running cost of vehicles. Govt. had introduced FAME program to provide incentives to buy electric cars In 2015. It was decided to introduce 70 lakh electric cars in India by 2020 under the program.
Plan to introduce electric vehicles as per Power Minister Piyush Goyal announced at the CII Annual Session 2017. According to him Initially the government can handhold the electric vehicle industry for 2-3 years to help. No petrol/diesel cars won’t be allowed on the road after 2030 which is just 13 years away.
The Ministry of Heavy Industries and the NITI Aayog are working together for promotion of electric vehicles. People will buy electric vehicle only when they find it cost effective. During the last 3 years, India’s energy consumption increased about 6.5 per cent CAGR (compounded annual growth rate) and this is more than the figure for the last 10 years.
500 million LED bulbs sold in the last two years in India and this is a great step to reduce energy and cost. This is done under UJALA or “Unnat Jivan by Affordable LEDs and Appliances for All” which is a Govt. scheme. LED light bulbs have been heavily discounted and provided at subsidized rates for all Indians and this boost the manufacturing, sales and usage.
