1. Mahabharata

The Mahabharata was an epic and classical show, which was produced by B.R Chopra and Directed by his son Ravi Chopra. This is a most popular and viewed television show in the history of Indian television. This show was broadcast in 1987-1988 every week on Sunday between 9am to 10 am. Urdu poet Rahi Masoom Raza was the script writer. The role of Lord Krishna was played by Nitish Bharadwaj.

2. Comedy Nights With Kapil

The Comedy Nights With Kapil was considered as an Indian sketch comedy and celebrity talk show, which became India’s highest rated scripted TV show. It was presented by Kapil Sharma, who got the award of Entertainer of the year in 2013. The show was premiered on Colors TV on 22 June 2013 and ended on 24 January 2016. This is the most watched show in television history in terms of number of viewers.

3. Ramayana

The Ramayana is an Indian epic television series, which was based on Ramayana written by Mahrishi Valmiki. It was produced and directed by Ramanand Sagar and aired in the year 1986.  Dipika played the role of Sita and Arun Govil played the lead role as Ram. It was premiered on 25 January 1987 – 31 July 1988. Ramanand Sagar, who created, written, and directed this show.

4. Hum Log

The Hum Log was Indian television’s first soap opera, which was written by Manohar Shyam Joshi and directed by P. Kumar Vasudev. Ashok Kumar is a veteran Hindi film actor, who also played a key role. It was telecast on 7 July 1984 – 17 December 1985 on Doordarshan. This is the most famous soap opera in Indian television History.

5. Kaun banega Crorepati

The Kaun banega Crorepati is an Indian television game show, which was hosted by the superstar Amitabh Bacchan. It was first aired in the year 2000, which was initially provided contestants the chance to win up to ten million rupees. Many celebrities were participated in this show. Harshvardhan Navathe was the first top prize winner on 19 October 2000. He won 10,000,000 Rupees.

6. Hum panch

The Hum panch was an Indian sitcom, which was written by Imtiaz Patel. This is one of the all-time favourite comedies along with Dekh Bhai Dekh. Bhairavi Raichura, Ashok Saraf, Rakhee Tandon, Vandana Pathak, Vidya Balan etc. are the lead actors of this show. Ekta Kapoor and Shobha Kapoor are the producers of this show. This show was telecast on Zee TV.

7. Kyonki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi

The Kyonki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi  is an Indian soap opera, which holds the record of most episodes in Indian Television History i.e 1800 episodes. Tulsi Virani played the role of the main character. This show was started in the year 2001. This show presented a simple story of a joint Gujarati family. Shobha Kapoor and Ekta Kapoor are the co-producers of this show. They produced under their banner Balaji Telefilms.

8. Shaktiman

The Shaktiman was most popular and most viewed television shows, which was produced by Mukesh Khanna and directed by Dinkar Jani. This is a fictional Indian superhero. It was originally aired on Doordarshan from 27 September 1997. Mukesh Khanna played the double role, Shaktiman as well as Gangadhar.

9. Dekh Bhai Dekh

The Dekh Bhai Dekh was a Hindi sitcom, which was written and Directed by Aanand Mahendroo and Produce by Jaya Bachhan under the banner of Saraswati Audio Visuals Pvt Ltd. It was premiered on Doordarshan’s metro channel, (DD2) on 6 May 1993. Some of the lead characters were Shekhar Suman, Navin Nichol, Urvashi Dholakiya, Farida Jalal etc.

10. Byomkesh Bakshi

The Byomkesh Bakshi is the first Hindi Television series, which was directed by Basu Chatterjee. Rajit Kapur, Sukanya Kulkarni and K. K. Raina are the stars acted in this show. The story is based on the Byomkesh Bakshi character created by Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay. The role of Byomkesh Bakshi was played by Rajat Kapoor. This show was aired between 1993 to 1997 on DD Metro and later retelecast on Sony Sab TV and Doordarshan.
