1. Neil Armstrong

The Neil Armstrong was known as an American astronaut, aerospace engineer, university professor, test pilot and naval aviator. He was born on 5 August 1930. Armstrong was the first person to walk on the Moon. He acquired his pilot’s licence before he got his driving licence. He died on 25 August 2012 in Cincinnati, Ohio.

2. Yuri Gagarin

The Yuri Gagarin (Yuri Alekseyevich Gagarin) was considered as a Russian cosmonaut and Soviet pilot. He was born on 9 March 1934 in the village of Klushino, near Gzhatsk. He becomes the first human to travel into space and to orbit the earth. Gagarin was killed in a routine training exercise in the year 1968. He became an international celebrity. He won many medals as well as titles, including Hero of the Soviet Union.

3. Valentina Tereshkova

The Valentina Tereshkova is the first woman to have flown in space on the 16th June 1963. She is known as a retired Russian engineer, cosmonaut and politician. She was born on 6 March 1937 in the village of Maslennikovo in Tutayevsky District, Yaroslavl Oblast, in central Russia. She gained a number of awards and honours.

4. John Herschel Glenn

John Herschel Glenn was a United States Marine Corps aviator, engineer, astronaut, and United States Senator from Ohio. He was the first American to orbit the Earth and circling it three times. He was one of the Mercury Seven, military test pilots by NASA as the United States’ first astronauts. He flew the Friendship 7 mission; the first American to orbit the Earth. He also won election to the Senate in 1974 and served for 24 years until January 3, 1999. He was the only person to fly in both the Mercury and Space Shuttle programs. 

5. Jim Lovell

The Jim Lovell is known as a most popular as the commander of the Apollo 13 mission. He was born on 25 March 1928 in Cleveland, Ohio. Lovell is a former NASA astronaut as well as a retired captain in the United States Navy. He was considered as the first person to fly in space four times. He played a cameo role in the movie Apollo 13. He gained a number of awards.

6. Alan Shepard

The Alan Shepard was regarded as an American naval aviator, businessman, test pilot and astronaut, who was born on 18 November 1923.He completed graduation from the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis. 7. Chris Hadfield

9. Valeri Polyakov

The Valeri Polyakov is regarded as a Russian former cosmonaut, who made his first flight into space aboard Soyuz TM-6 in the year 1988. He was born on 27 April 1942 in Tula, Tula Oblast, Russian SFSR. Valeri Vladimirovich Polyakov is his full name. Polyakov is known as the holder of the record for the longest single spaceflight in human history. He won many awards such as Order of the Legion of Honour, Order of Lenin, Hero of the Soviet Union/Russian Federation and the Order of Parasat.

10. Sergei Krikalev

The Sergei Krikalev is considered as a Russian mechanical engineer as well as a cosmonaut, who presently working as vice president of Space Corporation Energia. Sergei Konstantinovich Krikalev is his full name.
